Suggested questions

Show up to four suggested questions under the widget's greeting: add them on the Agents page, use ideas from your pages, and pick ones that work.

On this page

Suggested questions are buttons under the greeting, such as "How much does it cost?" or "Do you ship to Canada?". They show visitors what they can ask, and one click sends the question. For many visitors, a suggested question is the easiest way to start a conversation.

Add suggested questions

Open Agents

Open Agents in the dashboard and pick the site. Scroll to Suggested questions.

Add a question

Choose Add a question and type it. You can show up to four questions of up to 120 characters each.

Or use an idea from your pages

Under Ideas from your pages, ASDK suggests questions based on the pages it read, such as "How much does it cost?" when your site has a pricing page, or "How can I contact you?" when it has a contact page. Click an idea to add it, then edit the wording if you like.

Save

Choose Save changes. Visitors see the questions on the next page view.

To remove a question, use the remove button next to it. To change the order, remove questions and add them again in the order you want.

How visitors see them

  • The questions appear as buttons under the greeting when the panel opens.
  • Clicking one sends it as the visitor's message, and the agent answers as usual.
  • Once the visitor has sent a message, the buttons disappear, so the conversation has room.
  • The same questions are shown in every language. If your visitors speak several languages, keep the questions short and simple, or write them in the language most of your visitors use. Answers still come in each visitor's language.

Pick questions that work

A suggested question is a promise: the visitor clicks it expecting a good answer. Before you save one, try it with Try the real widget and check the answer.

Good suggested questions:

  • are the questions visitors ask most. Your support inbox and your sales calls are the best guide. Once the Inbox's insights reach your workspace, their top questions are a good guide too.
  • have clear answers in your knowledge. If the answer is vague, improve the page or add a Q&A pair first.
  • lead somewhere. "How do I book a demo?" or "Which plan fits a team of ten?" move a visitor forward; "What is your mission?" rarely does.
  • are short. Four to eight words fit on one line, even on a phone.

Examples by type of site

SiteSuggested questions
B2B software"How much does it cost?", "Does it integrate with HubSpot?", "Is my data stored in the EU?"
Online shop"How long does delivery take?", "What is your return policy?", "Do you ship internationally?"
Agency or services"What services do you offer?", "How much does a project cost?", "How do we start working together?"
Local business"What are your opening hours?", "Where can I park?", "Do I need an appointment?"

When to use fewer

You don't have to fill all four places. One or two strong questions work better than four weak ones, and on phones each button takes space above the message box. If your greeting already says what visitors can ask, you can leave suggested questions out entirely.

Keep them current

Revisit your suggested questions when your offer changes: a question about a discontinued plan or a past promotion leads to a confusing answer. A quick check after each pricing or product change keeps them useful.
