Leads and CSV export
Work with the contact details visitors leave in the widget: the leads list, statuses for follow-up, the CSV export and handling lead data responsibly.

On this page
A lead is created each time a visitor sends the contact form in the widget. It holds the details they left and links to the conversation, so whoever follows up knows what the visitor asked. This page explains the leads list, statuses and the CSV export.
What a lead contains
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Always present: the form's one required field | |
| Name, company, phone | If you ask for them under Also ask for and the visitor filled them in |
| Consent | The visitor ticked your consent text before sending |
| Page | The page the visitor was on |
| Date | When the form was sent |
| Conversation | A link to the full conversation |
The fields come from your lead capture settings. If visitors sign in to your site and you pass their details with identify, the form is prefilled, so leads from signed-in visitors are more complete.
The leads list
The Leads page lists the newest leads at the top. Filter it by Status (New, Contacted, Archived or All) and by site, or search by email, name or company. Open a lead to see its contact details, the page it was left on, whether the visitor agreed to be contacted, and the conversation that led to it. Reading the conversation before you reply is worth the minute it takes: the visitor has already told the agent what they need.
Statuses
Each lead has a status, so your team can see what still needs a reply:
| Status | Use it when |
|---|---|
| New | Nobody has followed up yet. Every lead starts here. |
| Contacted | Someone replied or called. |
| Archived | No follow-up needed: spam, a duplicate, or a closed question. |
Change a lead's status with Status on its page. The page shows who changed it last and when.
A simple rule that works for small teams: nobody leaves for the day with leads in New.
Export leads as CSV
Export CSV on the Leads page downloads the leads that match the current filter, so you can bring them into a spreadsheet, a CRM import or a mailing tool.
- The file is UTF-8 encoded, so names with accents and non-Latin scripts are kept. If a spreadsheet shows garbled characters, import the file and choose UTF-8 as the encoding instead of opening it with a double click.
- Some cells start with an apostrophe. A cell whose text begins with
=,+,-or@gets a leading'. Spreadsheet programs would otherwise treat such text as a formula, and a visitor could type a formula into the form on purpose. The apostrophe keeps it plain text. Remove it only if you know the value is safe.
Get leads faster
You don't have to check the dashboard to know about a new lead:
- Email: owners and admins get an email when new leads arrive. See Notifications.
- Slack: post new leads to a channel with an incoming webhook, set up under Leads → Notifications.
- Your own tools: the widget's
leadevent lets your site's code pass leads on, for example to your tag manager. See JavaScript API. - CRM: the Sales agent, included from the Pro plan, qualifies leads, books meetings and sends qualified leads to webhooks, which Zapier or Make can pass to your CRM. Native HubSpot and Pipedrive connections are coming soon. See the Sales agent.
Fast replies matter: a visitor who just asked a question is most likely to answer the phone or an email now, not tomorrow. Our article on speed to lead explains why.
Handle lead data responsibly
Leads are personal data. For your visitors, your company is the controller and ASDK processes the data on your behalf.
- Use the details only for what the consent text says, such as replying to the request. Adding leads to a newsletter usually needs separate consent.
- Keep exports safe. A CSV file on a laptop is outside ASDK's protection. Delete exports you no longer need.
- Answer deletion requests. If a visitor asks you to delete their data, delete it in your own tools and ASDK. See Delete your data.
- Keep only what you need. Leads are kept with their conversations for 12 months by default. See Data retention.
