A workspace is your company's space in ASDK. It holds sites, their knowledge and agents, a team and a plan. Most companies need one workspace; agencies and groups with separate brands often use several. This page explains how workspaces work and how to manage them.
What a workspace holds
| Belongs to the workspace | Notes |
|---|---|
| Sites | Each with its own knowledge, widget settings and Site ID |
| The plan | Limits such as sites, pages and monthly answers are shared by all sites in the workspace |
| Members | Everyone in the workspace sees all its sites |
| API keys | Each key works for one workspace only |
| Conversations and leads | Of all its sites |
Your sign-in belongs to you, not to a workspace: the same email can be a member of several workspaces with a different role in each.
Your first workspace
When you sign in for the first time, ASDK creates a workspace for you and makes you its owner. The setup wizard then adds your first site to it. You can rename the workspace at any time.
One workspace or several?
| Situation | Use |
|---|---|
| One company with a website and a shop on a subdomain | One workspace, one site with both domains allowed |
| One company with two product websites | One workspace, two sites |
| Two companies or brands with separate teams | Two workspaces |
| An agency managing client websites | One workspace per client, or one workspace with a site per client on the Agency plan |
Keep sites in one workspace when the same people work on them and they can share one plan's limits. Use separate workspaces when teams, plans or billing should stay apart: members of one workspace don't see the other.
Switch workspaces
The workspace switcher sits at the top of the dashboard's sidebar and shows the current workspace and your role in it. Click it to see Workspaces, the list of every workspace you belong to, and pick one.
Switching keeps you on the same page: if you were on Knowledge, you land on Knowledge of the other workspace.
Create a workspace
Open the switcher
Click the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar.
Choose Create workspace
At the bottom of the list, choose Create workspace. The dialog reminds you that a workspace holds its own sites, knowledge, agents and team, and that you'll be its owner.
Name it
Enter a Workspace name, such as your company's name, and create it. You switch to the new workspace, which starts empty on the Free plan.
One person can own up to 20 workspaces.
Rename a workspace
Open Settings → Workspace. Under Workspace name, change the name, up to 80 characters, and save. The name appears in the switcher and in invitation emails. Only owners and admins can rename a workspace.
The plan of a workspace
Settings → Workspace also shows the plan, with a link to Billing. Each workspace has its own plan: upgrading one workspace doesn't change another. See Plans and limits.
Workspace ID
The Workspace ID, under Settings → Workspace, identifies your workspace. It starts with wsp_. Use Copy and include it when you contact support, so we can find your account right away. It isn't secret, but there's no reason to publish it.
Leave or delete a workspace
- Leave: on Settings → Members, choose Leave next to your own name. A workspace always keeps at least one owner, so the last owner can't leave. See Members and roles.
- Delete: an owner deletes the workspace with everything in it under Settings → Data → Delete workspace; support can restore it for 30 days. To delete only some data, delete its sites. See Deleting a workspace or your account and Delete your data.
