Answers in the language your visitor writes in

A visitor asks in Spanish, your site is in English: the agent searches your English pages and answers in Spanish, with the pages it used. Nothing to translate, nothing to set up.

Example. Northwind Logistics is a fictional company.

Answers follow the visitor

The agent replies in the language of each message. When a message is too short to tell, such as “ok?” or a product name, it keeps the language of the conversation, then the page's, then your site's.

  • One knowledge base for every languageASDK translates the question into your content's language before it searches, so a German question finds the same pages an English one would.
  • Your pages as sourcesAnswers cite your pages as they are, in the language you wrote them.
  • Try the languages that matterHow well an answer reads depends on the AI model's skill in that language. Test a few real questions with the dashboard's real widget before you rely on a less common one.

The widget's own words, in eight languages

Buttons, labels, error messages and the contact form come in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian. Visitors with another language see these in English and still get answers in theirs.

  • Right to leftFor Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu, the panel is laid out right to left.
  • Fixed messages tooMessages that don't come from the AI model, such as the reply when a workspace has used its monthly answers, exist in the same eight languages.

It picks the language on its own

The widget checks three places, in order, and uses the first that gives a language. Only the base language counts: pt-BR and pt-PT both get Portuguese.

  • Your script tagdata-locale on the tag, or locale in window.asdkConfig for tag managers. browser skips the page and follows the browser.
  • The pageThe lang attribute of your html tag. English is skipped here, because many templates set en on sites in other languages.
  • The browserThe visitor's browser language. A language switcher that doesn't reload the page can call setLocale.

Your texts and the defaults

The default greeting, placeholder, AI disclosure and consent text are translated into the eight interface languages. Texts you write yourself are shown as written to every visitor, and so are your suggested questions.

  • Visitors speak one languageWrite the texts in that language.
  • They speak severalKeep the defaults, which follow each visitor's language, or write texts that work for all of them. Separate texts per language can't be set in the dashboard yet.

Sites with language versions

If your site has sections such as /de/ and /fr/, ASDK reads all of them and answers from the best-matching pages. Each page shows the language ASDK detected.

  • Skip what's out of dateTranslations that are incomplete or older than the main version can be left out with Skip pages under, so answers come from current pages.
  • Mind the page limitEach language version of a page counts as a page toward your plan's limit.

Questions, answered

Something else? Write to hello@asdk.com

Do I need to translate my website?

No. Agents answer in the visitor's language from the pages you have. ASDK translates the question to search your content, then writes the answer in the visitor's language and cites your pages.

Which languages can visitors write in?

Any language the AI model handles well, which covers the widely spoken ones. The widget's buttons and labels come in eight languages; in other languages they appear in English while the answers follow the visitor.

Can I set the widget's language myself?

Yes. Add data-locale to the script tag, or call setLocale from your site's language switcher. Otherwise the widget uses your page's language, then the visitor's browser language.

Can I write a different greeting for each language?

Not in the dashboard yet. Keep the default texts, which are translated into the eight interface languages, or write your texts in your main language.

Does each language version of a page count toward my page limit?

Yes, each version is a page. If your limit is tight, skip the language versions you don't need.
