How it works with Squarespace

On this page

Studios, consultants and small firms often choose Squarespace for a polished site they can run without a developer. Those sites get a steady stream of questions about prices, availability, process and location, often outside business hours. ASDK adds AI agents to a Squarespace site that answer from your own pages and pass the conversation to you when a person should take over.

What ASDK adds to a Squarespace site

ASDK builds one knowledge base from your published pages, including blog posts and service pages, plus any documents you upload. Every agent you switch on answers from it.

  • Chat (early access, from the Free plan) answers visitors from your content, links the pages each answer came from, and offers to take contact details when it cannot help.
  • Sales (early access, from the Pro plan) asks the qualifying questions you write in plain language and offers a meeting to visitors who fit.
  • Agent-Ready (early access, from the Free plan) makes your site easier for AI assistants to read and describe accurately.
  • Search is coming soon. It will answer in place of a search box, with sources.

The widget adds a chat button in a corner of the page. Your template, fonts and layout stay as they are.

An example from a Squarespace site

Picture a brand photography studio with a Squarespace site: a portfolio, a packages page, an "about the process" page and a booking inquiry form. A visitor looking at the portfolio asks: "What's included in your half-day package, and do you travel for shoots?"

Chat finds the packages page and the process page, lists what the half-day package includes and what the site says about travel, and links both pages. If the studio has switched on Sales, the agent can ask the studio's own questions, such as the shoot date and location, and offer a call when the answers fit.

If the site does not say whether travel costs extra, the agent says it does not know and offers to pass the question on with the visitor's email. The studio gets a qualified inquiry instead of a visitor who quietly closes the tab.

What you need on Squarespace

Squarespace adds site-wide code through Code Injection. Code injection is available on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans and some legacy plans, according to Squarespace's help center (checked October 2026). Other plans cannot use it, so they cannot load ASDK.

ASDK's own plans are separate: the Free plan includes Chat and Agent-Ready, and the pricing page lists the rest.

Set up ASDK on Squarespace

Create your site in ASDK

Add your website's address in the dashboard. ASDK reads your published pages and builds the knowledge base; the Install page then shows your snippet with your site ID.

Open Code Injection

In the Pages panel, scroll down to Website Tools and click Code Injection. Older dashboards have it under Settings → Advanced → Code Injection.

Paste the snippet into the Footer field, which Squarespace adds just before the closing body tag of every page, and click Save.

HTML
<script async src="https://cdn.asdk.com/v1/asdk.js" data-site-id="SITE_ID"></script>

Check while logged out

Squarespace turns scripts off while you are logged in and editing, so open your site in a private window to see the chat button. Then click Check installation on the dashboard. The Squarespace install guide has the details.

Squarespace details worth knowing

  • Footer, not header. The footer field keeps the script out of the way of your page's first paint. The tag is async, so it never blocks the page either way.
  • Checkout pages. Squarespace checkout pages do not run injected code, so the widget does not appear there. That is usually what you want: a chat button in the middle of a payment can distract more than it helps.
  • Member areas. ASDK reads public pages only. Pages behind a Squarespace member login are not in the knowledge base unless you upload their content as documents.
  • Consent banners. If your cookie banner holds back scripts until a visitor agrees, the widget loads after consent. It sets no cookies; it keeps a random visitor ID in the browser's local storage. See consent managers.

Getting better answers from a Squarespace site

Squarespace templates lean on large images and short captions. That reads well for people, but an agent needs facts in text. A few changes help:

  • Write your prices and packages out. If your pricing lives in an image or a PDF flyer, add it as text on a page, or upload the PDF as a document.
  • Describe your process step by step. "How it works" pages answer the questions visitors ask before they contact you, such as how long it takes and what you need from them.
  • Add an FAQ page with short answers. If you use an accordion, keep each answer as text rather than an image, so the agent can read and cite it.
  • Keep event and opening details current. Old dates and past offers on public pages can still be quoted.

When the agent cannot answer, it says so instead of guessing, and offers to take the visitor's details. Our guide to grounded answers explains why that matters, and what to tell visitors about AI chat covers your privacy notice.

Squarespace turns scripts off while you are logged in and editing. Open your site in a private window to see the chat button as visitors do.

Does the widget appear on Squarespace checkout pages?

No. Squarespace checkout pages do not run injected code, so the widget does not appear there.

Do I need a Squarespace extension for ASDK?

No. ASDK uses Squarespace's own Code Injection setting. There is nothing to install from the Squarespace Extensions marketplace.
