AI agents for dental clinics
How dental practices can use AI agents to answer new-patient questions and take consultation requests while keeping health details and advice out of chat.
What visitors ask
Questions visitors bring to websites in this industry. An agent answers them from your own pages and cites them, and offers to take the visitor’s contact details when a person should answer.
- Are you taking new patients?
- Do you accept Delta Dental PPO?
- How much is a cleaning and exam without insurance?
- Do you offer payment plans for implants?
- My tooth has hurt for two days. Can I get in this week?
- Do you see children, and from what age?
- Are you open on Saturdays?
- Do you offer clear aligners?
- Is there parking, and is the office wheelchair accessible?
- What should I bring to my first visit?
- Do you offer sedation for nervous patients?
- My face is swollen and I have a fever. What should I do?

The guide
On this page
A dental practice's website does front-desk work around the clock. Prospective patients check whether you take their insurance, whether you are accepting new patients and what a cleaning costs without coverage. Parents look for someone who sees children. And late at night, someone with a swollen jaw wants to know what to do. An AI agent can answer most of these questions from your own pages. Because the visitors are patients, it also has to stay clear of clinical advice and treat health information with care, so this page spends as much time on guardrails as on features.
Who visits a dental practice website
- Prospective new patients. Insurance networks, new-patient availability, location and hours, first-visit costs and what to bring.
- Parents. Whether you see children, from what age, and how you help nervous kids.
- People comparing elective treatment. Implants, clear aligners, veneers and whitening. They compare price ranges, financing and the consultation process across several practices.
- People in pain. A broken tooth, a swelling, a lost crown. They need your emergency instructions, not a blog post.
- Existing patients. Rescheduling, forms, billing questions and the aftercare instructions they lost.
Which ASDK agents fit a dental practice
ASDK is in early access. All agents answer from one knowledge baseA knowledge base is the curated set of content an AI agent is allowed to answer from, such as web pages, help articles, PDFs and FAQs, kept indexed and current. built from your website, so the answers match what your pages say.
| Agent | Status | Its job on a dental site |
|---|---|---|
| Chat | Early access | Answers questions about insurance, services, hours and the first visit |
| Sales | Early access | Takes consultation requests for elective treatment |
| Agent-Ready | Early access | Makes services, networks and hours readable for AI assistants |
| Voice | Coming soon | The same answers by voice, for visitors who would rather talk |
Chat: the questions your front desk answers every day
Example flow: "Do you take Delta Dental PPO, and are you open Saturdays?" Chat answers from your insurance and hours pages: the networks you list, a note that benefits are checked before the visit, and your Saturday hours, with links to both pages. If the visitor then asks whether a filling will be covered, Chat explains that coverage depends on their plan and offers the team's contact details instead of guessing.
Sales: consultation requests for elective treatment
Example flow: a visitor reading your implant page asks about cost and financing. Sales answers from the published price range and financing page, then offers an implant consultation. It asks only what scheduling needs (name, phone or email, new or existing patient, preferred times) and books a slot through Cal.com, Calendly or Google Calendar if you use one of them for consultations. If your schedule lives in practice-management software, set it to take a callback request instead. Sales is included from the Pro plan.
Agent-Ready: be easy for AI assistants to recommend
Agent-Ready hosts an llms.txtllms.txt is a proposed Markdown file at a website's root that gives AI tools a short summary of the site and links to the pages that matter most. file that summarizes your practice for AI systems: services, insurance networks, hours, new-patient status and how to book. The section on AI research below explains why that matters.
Voice: for patients who would rather call (coming soon)
Many patients still prefer to talk. When Voice ships, it will answer the same questions by voice from the same knowledge base, under the same rules.
Guardrails for dental practices
Emergencies first. Write your after-hours instructions on a page: your emergency number, what your dentists want patients to do, and when to go to an emergency room. Instruct the agent to show them as soon as a message mentions swelling, bleeding, an injury or severe pain. It should not judge how serious the case is; that judgment belongs to your team.
No diagnosis, no treatment advice. "Is this an abscess?" and "Can I wait until Monday?" get the same answer: the agent cannot assess symptoms, and here is how to reach the team. ASDK always tells visitors they are talking to an AI; for a practice, add "not a dentist" to the greeting.
Treat health details as protected information. HIPAA defines a business associate as, among other things, a vendor that creates, receives, maintains or transmits protected health information on behalf of a covered entity. HHS guidance on online tracking technologies treats information collected on pages where people schedule appointments or describe symptoms as potentially protected; the guidance page notes that a federal court vacated part of it in June 2024. In practice:
- Ask any chat vendor, ASDK included, whether it will sign a business associate agreement, and let your privacy officer decide what the chat may collect.
- Until that is settled, keep the chat to general questions. The greeting asks visitors not to share symptoms, medical history or insurance member IDs.
- Send existing patients to your patient portal or phone line for anything about their care.
The guide to what to tell visitors about AI chat and privacy covers the notice itself.
Prices only as published. The agent can repeat fees and ranges from your pages; it should never estimate a treatment cost. Under the No Surprises Act, providers must give uninsured and self-pay patients who schedule care in advance, or who ask for one, a good faith estimate of expected charges, and CMS confirmed to the American Dental Association in February 2023 that this generally applies to dental offices. Have the agent explain how to request one.
Networks, not benefits. The agent can list the insurance networks you participate in. Whether a specific procedure is covered depends on the patient's plan, so it says the team will check.
How AI assistants research dental practices
A new patient may ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude for "a dentist near me who takes Cigna, sees kids and is open on Saturdays". The assistant can only match you on facts it finds stated plainly; see how AI assistants decide what to say about your company. Make these explicit, as text on ordinary pages:
- Services, and the ones you refer out (for example, to an oral surgeon).
- Insurance networks, and whether you see out-of-network patients.
- New-patient status, hours, emergency policy and the typical wait for a first visit.
- Self-pay prices or ranges for common services, membership plans and financing options.
- Languages spoken, accessibility, parking and sedation options.
- Your dentists' names, specialties and credentials.
Dentist structured dataStructured data is machine-readable markup, usually schema.org terms written as JSON-LD, that states what a page describes: a product, company or article. can describe the practice, its locations and opening hours, as long as it matches the visible text. The free Agent Readiness Checker shows what AI agents can read on your site today, and Agent-Ready keeps llms.txt in step with your pages.
Where to start
Agree with your privacy officer on what the chat may collect, and write the emergency and disclaimer text. Then start Chat on your insurance, services and new-patient pages and read the first week of conversations: the questions it could not answer point to pages you are missing. Add consultation requests once you are comfortable with what the agent asks and what it refuses. Pricing shows which plan includes each agent.

Frequently asked questions
Something else? Write to hello@asdk.com
Can an AI agent on a dental website give treatment advice?
No. It answers questions about the practice, such as services, insurance networks, hours and the first visit. Anything about a patient's own symptoms or treatment goes to your team, and urgent-sounding messages get your emergency instructions first.
Does HIPAA apply to a chat on our website?
It can. A vendor that receives protected health information on behalf of a covered practice may be a business associate that needs a business associate agreement. Ask your privacy officer to decide what the chat may collect before it goes live.
Can the agent tell patients what treatment will cost?
Only fees you publish. Uninsured and self-pay patients are generally entitled to a good faith estimate under the No Surprises Act, so the agent should explain how to request one instead of estimating a cost itself.
Which ASDK agents are available now?
As of October 2026, Chat, Sales and Agent-Ready are in early access, and Voice is coming soon. ASDK itself is in early access, so review the setup with whoever handles HIPAA compliance at your practice.
